The Artist Upgrade Workshop is designed to foster the growth of new artists into professionals by heightening their experience in and understanding of necessary field works and institutional devices for artistic communication. Various tasks in presentation, exhibition, PR, critique, relationship with galleries, and artist sponsorship programs are laid out in order to allow artists form subjective perspectives and fully express themselves based on sound theoretical and administrative knowledge for effective communication.

Program:
1st Stage. Artist Statement, Presentation
2nd Stage. Exhibition through Partnership with Curators
Participating Curators: Kang Seong-eun, Kim No-am, Ahn Kyung-hwa, Lee Eun-ju)
3rd Stage. Focused Critique, Portfolio Workshop, Meeting with Experienced Artists
4th Stage. Gallery Information, Fund (Sponsorship) Application, Residence Program Information
The IAS workshops promote voluntary participation and personal ownership of the process rather than structured indoctrination. Away from giving one-sided instruction, the IAS workshops encourage participants to get motivated and activated in the course of discussion.

It is hoped that participants will proactively delineate the issues and agenda relevant to the field of the visual arts, refine them, and thereby “pre-empt ” the future discourses and activities in the practice of the visual arts.
