The art of Listening - Artist talk 2
David Michael DiGregorio
September 5, 2007 5pm
In his lecture, David Michael DiGregorio will describe the inner workings of his songs and sound compositions. He will also show a 16mm film on video and clips of performances, and will do a demonstration/performance with a microphone.

David Michael DiGregorio makes music under the name dogr. He performs live concerts, and for the past year has also made music for and performed in the series in the room by Sung Hwan Kim. Often thick with vocals, his music is inspired by chants, story cycles, progressive rock, spirituals, gospel music, and pop. His works comprise layers of abstract composition, loops, non-textual unison singing, transformations of one voice into many, noises, mistakes, documentary sound, rhythms becoming asynchronous; melodies in the work nevertheless uncover themselves through these strata. Currently, he is working on completing recordings for his forthcoming album with producer Andi Toma (Mouse on Mars). He has also made and shown 16mm film work internationally.

The IAS workshops promote voluntary participation and personal ownership of the process rather than structured indoctrination. Away from giving one-sided instruction, the IAS workshops encourage participants to get motivated and activated in the course of discussion.

It is hoped that participants will proactively delineate the issues and agenda relevant to the field of the visual arts, refine them, and thereby “pre-empt ” the future discourses and activities in the practice of the visual arts.
