A Leverage for Emerging Artists 2008 at Insa Art Space pairs one curator with one emerging artist project to develop and advance the production process in a collective manner. This programme does not lend authority to the curator to lead the production but rather invite the curator to take on different roles to support the artist. First, the curator takes on the role of an advisor in order to cultivate and facilitate the artists. Second, the curator acts as a manager for the artists, introducing the artists to art critics and established artists who can effectively portray the artwork or act as mentors, respectively. Furthermore, the curator helps the artist(s) devise and complete necessary promotional materials for both web and print.

A Leverage for Emerging Artists 2008 essentially sought to be like a lever to be a small and simple apparatus to increase the force. Similar to the principle of a lever, the use of more force or the use of a short lever to move an object far away according to the distance between the fulcrum and the force or the distance between the fulcrum and the load will affect the outcome; as the outcome of this programme will be affected by the relative distance of the relationship between the artist, the curator and Insa Art Space.

'An Interim Report' will show not a finished project, as revealed in the title. It will be an opportunity to exhibit and show the progress of the artists' work thus far and anticipate the artists' prospective work.
The IAS workshops promote voluntary participation and personal ownership of the process rather than structured indoctrination. Away from giving one-sided instruction, the IAS workshops encourage participants to get motivated and activated in the course of discussion.

It is hoped that participants will proactively delineate the issues and agenda relevant to the field of the visual arts, refine them, and thereby “pre-empt ” the future discourses and activities in the practice of the visual arts.
